MP3.com was formerly a music-sharing website active from 1997 to 2003. It allowed artists to upload MP3 files of their own music and sell special D.A.M. CDs with their platform. This iteration of the site was shut down in 2003. The current version of the website is an inactive music blog focusing on music from decades past.

The D.A.M. Project

A key draw of MP3.com were the Digital Automatic Music CDs. The way they worked was artists submitted an album of MP3s to the website, and MP3.com would make CDr copies of their album that would be sold on the website. Artists would also get a cut of the CD sales. Since the website is down, this initiative is no longer running. Thankfully the CDs themselves still exist, and so do bits of the website that can help us uncover information about all the CDs that were made for MP3.com.

Goals

  • Complete a database containing all DAM CDs made and sold through MP3.com
  • Upload as many DAM CDs as possible to the Internet Archive.
